Great! ...when it works.
Pros: Processor is fast, lots of RAM, decent video card for some decent gaming. I ran Crysis at full settings at 800 x 600 near-flawlessly in DX10 mode.
Cons: Tons of bloatware. Terrible HP support. Bluescreens all over the place. Mine has had tons of RAM problems, and I had to take out two of the 2gb sticks to get the system to a semi-stable state. Onboard sound can never amount to a decent soundcard. Only extra slots on the mobo are PCIe 1x 1.0 slots.
Other Thoughts: Maybe you'll have better luck, but I wouldn't reccomend HP to anyone. I've had nothing but problems.

Good Value
Pros: Fast AMD processor, plenty of RAM, value priced, operates reasonably quiet, no problems during initial boot, easily integrated into home network. Sync'd with old HP f2105 LCD monitor, no problem using KVM switch, connected to network (wireless and direct) without incident, and found Xerox Phaser 6130n printer on network.
Cons: No DVD copy of software provided... a restore partition on HD is provided instead. Glut of promotional software I removed, HP and others.
Other Thoughts: Vista is different... not really bad. I did cheat and make certain Xerox provided driver download for 64-bit Vista and my printer before ordering m9500f. Upgraded to IE 8, use favorites bar in similar fashion to Firefox on my Linux machines. FrontPage 2000 works so far, will eventually upgrade to Expressions Web...

I need earplugs!
Pros: fast processor, adequate hard drive, built in Wifi
Cons: This has to be the chatty Kathy of all computers! it moans, sounds like gears stripping, I've never owned a computer this noisy! Before neuropathy set in, I built computers for myself and my friends and never experienced this! I can understand 1 backup drive bay, but 2? a total waste of room at the buyers expense.
Other Thoughts: I wouls have liked to have seen a wireless keyboard and mouse (I added my own) Vista, of course has made my life miserable. (And cost me more than a few hundred dollars replacing non vista compatible hardware and software.)

HTPC in a box
Pros: loaded with RAM, fast AMD quad 2.3 Ghz processor can handle multiple tasks that would crash lesser systems. I chose this particular HP Elite model because it didn't include the (useless to me) TV tuner card. Connected it to my home theater amplifier with the digital audio out coax cable and with DVI to HDMI cable to big screen flat panel. Can now get rid of DVD jukebox, CD jukebox, home theater DVD burner and home theater Blu-ray player, all replaced by this unit.
Cons: Windows Vista is not compatible with printer drivers for my network printers on Windows XP server. Haven't figured it out yet. Unimportant since printing will rarely be needed in HTPC role. Audio card had no optical out. Digital coax audio cable connection to home theater amplifier doesn't seem to work as well as optical. Useless front docking ports for proprietary HP external drives. The smaller one can be swapped out directly for a 3.5 inch hard drive. Components are very tightly packed into case. Had to use needle nose pliers to plug SATA cables for upgrades into motherboard. Fans are somewhat noisy for quiet moments in classical music.
Other Thoughts: Added a Sony blu-ray player to empty optical drive port. There is room for at least 4 hard disks. Added a wireless keyboard with touchpad so that computer can be controlled from couch. Some small items on Windows desktop hard to read from 10 feet away even on big screen. Some webpages cannot be read at normal TV viewing distances. I have connected an old LCD monitor in cloned mode for occasional use when text reading is critical.

Sweet Deal!
Pros: Pros- I got this as the last pc at circuit city for their going out of business. Last 4 days got 30% off I only paid $625 after taxes so I got a super deal! Specs are pretty good for that price.
Cons: Graphics card is actually pretty darn loud. A bunch of things need to be uninstalled. Only one case fan.

Bad Design
Pros: Good PC, Tons of RAM, TV Tuner
Cons: Geforce 9500gs Graphics Card - The fan on this video card sounds like a chain saw grinding through sheet metal. If you google it you will find dozens of complaints.
Other Thoughts: Don't count on any help from HP

It's a great choice
Pros: For the price all of the hard components are impressive. Even the graphic are good if you're not a serious gamer. Vista is an major improvement over HP's proprietary XP version.
Cons: HP still likes to load a bunch of junk you have to uninstall.
Other Thoughts: Evan CNET likes this HP.

Pretty Darn Solid
Pros: powerful newly refined AMD chipset, Ram to spare, expansion capability to spare, and a pretty slick looking design. It came out the box just about 100%. Had to grab some drivers off of the web but the puter did it automatically. This should be a best seller for the novice or pro not looking to drop three or four mortgage payments on a machine! Been into computers since the 80s and have to say this could possibly be just about the best value in a PC i've seen.
Cons: Vista. I know it isn't the manufacturers fault but man, please Microsoft, hurry up and release Win 7! Vista is the worlds largest resource hog. Had me contemplating looking for XP or going to another OS! I am holding out hope that Vista will go the way of ME and 95. Should 7 not try to take over your machine, today's age of high processing and graphics power will definintely be well spent on gaming and other graphics intensive endeavors. Other than this, the machine is just plain solid.
Other Thoughts: Out the box it won't compete with alien ware or other 2-3k machines. Put a little money into it and it will. For the layman, this machine has it all right out the box. Won't need to upgrade by the end of this year either! It comes with plenty of expansion capability should you choose but i don't see this machine becomming obsolete for a long stretch. be patient with Vista as it grabs drivers and updates. I'm wary of the Symantec AV that's pre-loaded and dumped it. The firewall and other on board settings are security enough as long as you avoid those websites out there that deal in viruses! You'll also greatly improve speed with some of the onboard settings disabled or removed. If speed isn't a huge deal to you, keep em as is. Bottom line: this is a great machine, especially for the money and will do everything you need it to for a long time to come. Great buy period.
