Rating + 2 First Few Loaves Were Great

Pros: Makes or made the variables more constant so that the bread turned out the same each time. The controls are easy to use and set and understand. Basically add your ingredients and forget it until it beeps and your fresh bread is done. Even basic bread tastes great and is easy to make.

Cons: The motor started noticeably slowing down in kneading the bread after about 6 loaves of bread. It will barely knead flour, and bread flour it doesnt like at all. Lots of humming and burning plastic smell while it tried to knead the flour. It quickly got to where it didnt mix and knead the dough very well. The motor has a very difficult time turning with dough in it. There is a sickening burning plastic smell emmited while kneading the dough. So much so that I am dissuaded from using the machine.

Other Thoughts: Great idea. Great interface. Not thought out enough to put a good motor in there to knead the dough.

Rating + 1 Bad product - stay away

Pros: when it is working, it is great.

Cons: After three and half months of usage it broke, kneading is not working any more.

Other Thoughts: Read the user manual before you purchase this product. This is what said in the manual
"When the kneader mounting shaft does not rotate, it is necessary to replace the kneader mounting shaft unit
with a new one.
Consult with your authorised Panasonic Service Centre for servicing or for purchase of replacement parts.".

Rating + 1 Bad product stay away

Pros: It did what a bread maker suppose to do.

Cons: Died after 3 and half months of usage.

Other Thoughts: It took a while for me to persuade my wife to purchase this bread maker. Now, this become a laughing matter. I am going the hear it for the rest of my life. I contacted Panasonic and they told me to ship myself to one of their Service Center at Porland, OR. I am not sure I am willing to spend another 10~15 dollars to cover this junk.

Rating + 5 Works great

Pros: Great. Works as advertised and makes great bread.

Cons: The instructions for how to make bread rise could have more ideas. When trying to make wheat bread I'd constantly have problems with bread not rising. Turns out I was keeping yeast in the fridge, and it didn't have enough time to warm up before the kneading started. I figured it out through trial and error.

Rating + 5 Great Addition to Any Kitchen

Pros: The best non-stick pan I've ever seen. The pan and paddle are easy to clean. Bread falls out of the pan with one or two shakes. The yeast dispenser is a big plus. Plenty of settings for different types of bread.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought the YD250 based on ratings on this and other sites. This machine meets or beats my expectations. I'm eating two regular loaves and one raisin per week and losing weight. I swear home made is better for your health.

Rating + 2 Does not work with bread flour

Pros: Large and long lasting if using cake flour

Cons: But if you use bread flour, it will not be able to mix. Even try to make a 1.5lb bread, it will not be able to mix. Belt made crazy noise and just not turnning.

Other Thoughts: Why can't they make it stronger to work with bread flour and whole wheat? If you buy it for bleached cake flour, then it would work fine.

Rating + 5 Perfect bread every time

Pros: This bread maker has a temperature sensor, which takes one of the big variables out of making bread. The yeast dispenser is nice and probably helps, but I think the temperature sensor is more important even though the marketing folks obviously didn't understand that. In bread making the temperature of the ingredients controls the reaction rate, so without a temperature sensor, the machine just blindly runs through a set program, and hopefully you poured in "80 degree water" otherwise your results will suffer. This machine has produced perfect bread ever single time we have used it. We have owned it just over a month, and we are now making a loaf almost every day. It has made perfect bread every time, even using recipes from another bread maker. We also appreciate the large 2.5 lb loaf size. My 7 and 9-year-old daughters are becoming expert bread makers.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It's so frustrating to try to make bread and have it come out poorly half of the time. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more to buy this machine. We're glad we did.

Rating + 5 Awesome

Pros: This was our 1st bread machine, and now we can't live with out it... The Wife can't live with out her cranberry bread nor me with the seeded Rye...

Pizza dough for pizza or calzone is the best I have ever tasted... Newegg had it to me with in 3 days.... over 40 breads later we are still floored by the results....

We will never buy store bought bread again...

Cons: Newegg rocks local stores had it for $50.00 more, but like my other 80 orders over the years has proved you can't beat Newegg.....

Rating + 5 I love it!

Pros: Makes great bread, very easy to use. Can make very large loaves for a breadmaker.

Cons: Don't try panasonic's spicy cheese bread recipe that is included, I should have known by the unusual ingredients (including dried mustard and worcester's sauce) that it wouldn't be very good. and sure enough, I ended up throwing away an entire loaf of bread.

Other Thoughts: I love it, and will see how well a loaf of bread goes over at thanksgiving tomorrow :)

Rating + 3 Make Your Own Hideos Overcooked Bread

Pros: Pizza dough setting, good mix in 45 minutes. Auto yeast dispenser. Bread pan/hopper is rugged and aluminum stirrer is of good quality. Will mix up small batches of cookies quite well. As a novice baker it was fun. Both quick and long bread dough cycles come out great, if you use your own oven and pans. Cleaning is similar to outting the leavin's in the bottom of the toaster, diswashing the bread pan gets the majority of the work done.

Cons: No display backlight, hard to see on counter. No drain on bread hopper/pan ring where it connects to the machine, accumulates grit in dishwasher. Ceramic heating element clip is broken, likely from shipping the box was damaged on arrival. Overcooks bread, even on light setting. The loaf looks hideous upon extraction where the dough twisted on the side, and sometimes where the paddle pulls out. The idea that you can just dump in some ingredients and take it out in the morning is just a fantisy.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a machine to make pizza dough. Bought mixes from preparedpantry.com and am really satisfied. The machine is a quick and easy way to nead the dough, and 45 minutes plus 20 is not too long to wait versus a delivery (still looking for a good pizza sauce.) Bread dough/bread take 4 hours. Oh, and for so long I have heard "there is nothing like baking bread to make a house smell nice" does not work for me. Bye bread seemes the most forgiving mix for bread, but I like rye.

Rating + 5 Great machine

Pros: Great Machine....I've had mine for over 10 years and it still works great...Maybe a little more expensive than other brands, but I wouldn't even consider another bread machine. Still looking for a good bread mix after BEST LOAF was discontinued. The multi-grain bread was heaven!!
You can't go wrong with this machine!!

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Buy it- you'll be glad you did!!

Rating + 5 Good overall, so far, but...

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do. Makes good bread.

Cons: For regular bread, the machine just sits there, for over an hour, before it does anything, besides counting down the minutes. Called Panasonic customer support the first time I used it, as there was nothing I could find, in the manual that said that the ingredients had to "rest" for over an hour, before anything happens. I guess that's why the timer starts at 4 hours, instead of 3 hours for other machines. It does nothing for the first hour on a normal bread cycle.

Rating + 5 great bread maker

Pros: makes tasty good looking bread

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: I made four bread loaves (basic and raisin) so far. I followed the recipes from the bread maker manual and all the bread was tasty. It takes four hours to make a basic bread but it is worth waiting.

Rating + 5 Great Machine

Pros: This is a great machine. I've been using it for almost 10 years now and it's still going strong. I use it daily as I do not buy store bread. Sometimes, I use it up to 6 times a day as I'm always making my sourdough breads for others. The auto yeast dispenser is a great plus, as you hardly ever find one on other bread machines.

Cons: No cons here. Just a fantastic bread machine.

Rating + 1 Makes great bread but...

Pros: Makes great bread. Nonstick surfaces work very well.
Yeast dispenser works (you don't really need it just mound up the flour and put the yeast in the center if you are using the timer)

Cons: Defective design. Ceramic clip that holds heating element up breaks (I noticed mine was broken within 2 weeks). Apparently this is a common failure. I am still trying to talk to a person after a week of email.
The largest loafs are double the height of a normal loaf of bread and nearly impossible to slice.
Machine sits for 30 min after you hit start on all settings but rapid mode to let the ingredients warm up.
Timer mode doesn't work on dough settings

Other Thoughts: If you buy - just pray you don't have to try to get Panasonic to hold up their warranty.

There are better products out there for about half as much.

Rating + 5 Excellent bread maker

Pros: I don't think that you can buy better bread maker at all.

This bread maker is very reliable and long lasting product. We own it for over 5 years and baked probably 1,500 loafs of bread (I don't exagarate here).

The bread maker is very consistent in baking bread. Bread baked by our previuosly owned bread maker was different each time and we never knew how it will come out.

Separate yeast dispenser is a must if you want to program to have a fresh bread baked in the morning. Othwerise yeast would be exposed to water and do its action.

The recipe for pizza dough is not the greatest and we use recipe provided with our Kitchenaid mixer and use Kitchenaid Epicurian mixer instead.

Additionally, we can bake bread 2.5 lbs and I don't believe there is a single bread maker that bakes such a big loaf of bread.

Cons: No glass window to check the status of baking. For example if you forget to put yeast you can notice your mistake throught the window. I don't bother to open lid to check status of baking so I find out about my mistake when I need to eat bread. I guess you have to choose between yeast dispenser and a visor. I think that yeast dispenser is more beneficial.

Other Thoughts: The best bread maker you can buy for the money. I doubt that there is anything close to it at any price range.

Rating + 5 Great product

Pros: Makes great bread. Comes with easy to understand directions. Just set it and forget it and later that day you will have fresh bread. So easy to use.

Cons: Moves across the counter top some. Once it finds a corner it will stay put, but might want to watch if its close to the edge of a counter.

Other Thoughts: Real bread tastes incredible compared to bagged bread from the store. Unbelievable.

Rating + 5 Happy owner for already over 3 years

Pros: We use this machine everyday...for over three years already. My family traditionally eats bread, and compared to anything else , Panasonic makes the best bread.

Cons: No such. I hope they'll not discontinue the bread machines. I bought mine for 150 long time ago and it was worth the price.

Other Thoughts: You can use this for many many kinds of breads. It works perfectly. It is durable, it seems to last forever. Interestingly, all Panasonic devices that I had in my life never failed - phones, TV, audio, hair dryer /very good one/, so on...I usually don't develop brand addiction, but at this point this is the only brand of consumer electronics for which I can say that is trustfull.

Rating + 5 Great for original recipes

Pros: I grew up eating solid bread. By that I don't mean something hard but a bread of some substance, as opposed to the flimsy bread you find at the store. As in if you hold the bread by the edges, the middle of it isn't going to droop down.

The first bread I made with this here machine is somewhat complex in that it has virtually no equivalent in the supermarkets. It's a Russian dark rye bread, somewhat bitter and sour to the taste. Very solid, stout bread, no need to baby it with some serrated knife worrying it will crumble to pieces.

If you are looking for a machine that can handle your dark Russian and German rye breads, go for it.

Cons: Nothing negative about this bread machine. Be ready with some space in your kitchen, this thing is tall somewhat, but that's no big deal.
