Waste of Money!
Pros: Quite, looks good.
Cons: No where close to a 11,500 BTU air conditioner! Sharp should not be allowed to sell this advertised as a 11,500 BTU. I wasted $500 and won't even think about cooling my 18' x 6' room. Draws warm air in to replace the air that is discharged.
Other Thoughts: If you purchase one make sure that you are able to return it if it don't work. Save money, be happy, by a window unit!

A super alternative for a window unit!
Pros: Easy to install using duct tape into the window. Obviously, you want to make sure that you keep hot air out and the a/c unit needs to exhaust the hot air somewhere... so the unit must be located where a window is or it can go thru the wall. Also used thermal insulation tape to insulate the tubing in order to keep the hot air IN the tube to be exhausted out. Keeps my computer room of ~260 sqft cool during the hot Georgia month thus far.
Cons: Doesn't cool as well as a comparable window unit but it is not designed to. Set up directions were not the most helpful but I managed.
Other Thoughts: Remember, this is the alternative to a window unit. My bonus room that we use as our computer and kids office area is of course located above our garage (single family ranch) so the hot air that comes up the stairs along with being the upper most portion of the house collects a lot of heat. The only window we have faces the street and our Home Owner's Association would throw a fit if they saw a window unit sticking out of this window. This is a wonderful alternative to adding an a/c unit to the room and keeping it cool enough for our pc's to operate with fan settings normally around low to med settings. It keeps temps running about 75 deg F in the room so that is comfortable for us here.
If you can get a window unit because it will cool far better and more efficiently BUT if you're like me, this is a wonderful alternative. I looked up a lot of different models and Sharps are definitely done well.

UPDATED
Pros: Updated The unit looks good and its $100 Cheaper then when I bought it about 3 months ago.
Cons: I enjoy my Room COLD,,This cannot cool a room like a window 11000 BTU on LOW temp...Its most likely a 7000btu portable. I just bought a 10,000 Lg Window air conditioner and its as quite as this portable. I cannot believe everyone can say this can cool a 15X15 room.I really don't think so. Yep it does Blow cold air out butttt not as much as a 10,0000 btu on low speed. I will be useing this next season for my bedroom sinice I feel thats what it will only cool well
Other Thoughts: Stay away if you enjoy a cold room Save your money and buy a window unit. My mistake was to buy this but I am glad I did because I was thinking about these units for a few years now.

Avoid this AC
Pros: Quite, but useless
Cons: This product does not meet the specs that Sharp provides. My experience is that it only cools a room satisfactorily to half the stated volume.
Avoid this product. I returned it as it did not meet the specs.

Pros: Very easy to install and runs quiet and efficiently. It runs much quieter than the Windchaser model that I also own.
Cons: The window kit is cheap and I am unsure how it will hold up over time. I like the remote control but think there should also be controls on the unit itself.
Other Thoughts: A low cost alternative to the window kit is to use a 1" thick piece of styrofoam insulation board cut to the dimensions required then cut a hole for your exhaust. I use this with my Windchaser and will probably use it for the Sharp too.

Sharp Portable AC - Powerful-Quiet
Pros: I use this unit in a small office and do very exacting work all day long. I had tried a cheaper Amcor unit which was powerful but very noisy. The Sharp is easy to install and just works as advertised - strong cooling and very quiet. It is a fairly large unit but it's design is pleasant and doesn't intrude much in my small work space.
Cons: No controls on front. Exhaust hose gets hot

Great AC
Pros: Powerful cooling, Easy Install, Fits Small Windows with minor modification.
Cons: Large and heavy, The exhaust hose gets hot, Expensive
Other Thoughts: I bought this unit to cool down a 350 sq. ft. converted attic. My windows were smaller than recommeded for the install of the AC but I just modified the window mount to fit properly by cutting it to size with a jigsaw. It works great and keeps the whole area cool. On hot New England days the room can reach 100 deg. When the AC is running with the fan on medium the temp will stay at <80 deg. I am planning on purchasing another unit for the first floor.

Excellent product for what it is
Pros: Quiet. Repeat, very quiet! Easy to relocate on the same floor (rather heavy to lug up and down stairs). Easy set up, full-featured remote that can be clipped to the back of the unit if you want the controls on the unit. Doesn't take up much floor space.
Cons: It will not cool as much as a window unit of the same rated capacity, but, you should not expect that from a portable. Supplied window panels are rather flimsy plastic-- quickly made a sectional replacement out of wood slats with grooves to take 1 fibre-board panels, one with hole for the fixture on the end of the exhaust tube, to fit in our windows (horizontal sliders). Unit should include a cover for the exhaust vent opening in the panels when the hose is disconnected-- it does not. One thing Sharp missed in an otherwise very functional design.
Other Thoughts: This unit fully met our needs for a supplemental AC unit portable enough to easily relocate from room to room and quiet enough to use at night in a bedroom. Contrary to other remarks, UPS delivered our unit with no damage despite the rather rudimentary packaging. Delivery from NewEgg in 3 days- great service!

Good Portable - High Wattage
Pros: Great syle. Has a very quiet mode. Vents water out window (when in a/c window venting mode). Rather powerful for a portable. Easy setup. Overall i am very happy with the unit.
Cons: Short power cord. No controls on unit (but not a big deal). Extremely high wattage for basic home. Make sure you have a 20amp fuse to handle the 15amp unit and the wattage (11,500 btu / 8.5 energy rating = approx 1350Watts) and that this outlet is near the window you want to use. Don't use ordinary extension cord if you must, use heavy due for A/C. Not an energy saver rated product. Due to the weight of the unit and the thin plastic shell, you shouldn't really knock this thing around too much.
Other Thoughts: It's portable but kinda heavy to move up and down stairs. The casters on mine work well so far for rolling about on a wood. As others said, it is a very heavy box to ship so you can expect possible damage, unit was packed well within the original box. Mine arrived in good condition (one small bowed out section in the plastic frame but it's almost invisible). Expect less super chilled air than a comparable window unit, but this thing does kick out a nice cold breeze that will start to cool down a room (400SF) pretty quickly (and this was not on highest setting). Recommended if your electric is up to snuff and you want to pay the premium for both portable and style.

Comfort and quiet
Pros: As advertised, this unit is quiet... almost like white noise, even with the fan on medium speed. I could easily sleep in the same room with it running. It wafts cool, refreshing air all through my 600 square foot greatroom area. I am no longer a prisoner in my bedroom on hot days (prior to buying the Sharp, that was the only air-conditioned spot in my house.) We haven't used it on a really hot day, but I have high hopes it will do the job well when the next heat wave arrives. It seems well-built and Newegg got it to me in perfect condition and on time, at the best price I could find.
The remote control is easy to use and stores on the back of the unit. There is a power button on the front of the unit, so if it is set the way you want, you can just press the power button without using the remote at all. Some people have complained there are no controls on the unit. They might think that the tiny button below the word "Power" is an LED, but it is a power button!
Cons: The window panel was a little tricky to install. The sticky side of the foam tape goes onto the panel, not onto your window frame. The person who installed this for me almost stuck it to the window frame instead. I'm glad I noticed that in time.
It takes up quite a bit of floor space, but it works so well I don't really mind.
Other Thoughts: This unit is not the cheapest one on the market, but it is worth every penny. I do a lot of online research before I spend this much money on anything. This unit got the best reviews. So far I am very happy.

Good
Pros: Very Quite. I purchased my unit from Sams Club for around $480 as compared to the $589 price on newegg. I purchased this unit to cool my office which is an upstairs bedroom of my home that has trouble getting cool from the central air. This unit cools a 15x20 room even with 40+ year old drafty windows.
Cons: Blower not powerful enough. Even though the unit blows very cold air, it doesn't circulate as well as it should. However, on very hot days (95 F in Michigan) I put a pedestal fan at the opposite end of my office and point it down the upstairs hallway and this easy cools the upstairs of my home (5 bedrooms total). The window, as others stated, is a bit flimsy. These plastic pieces slide together to adapt to a horizontal or vertial window opening but they are just very flimsy. Foam tape comes with the unit to help create a seal but if you want to remove the unit in the winter time, you will have to buy more of the foam weather sealer for the next year.
Other Thoughts: Overall I'm happy. I'm a computer programmer so I sit at my desk all day with a TV on in the background and I can easily work or watch TV comfortably. The unit sites about 10FT from me and the 15x20 room easily gets cool. I also have a ceiling fan I can run to help circulate air. Another nicety is that on my unit the louvers can oscillate and you can adjust them with the remote. You can also manually adjust the left/right air flow while the louvers adjust up/down air flow. My unit also has an ION emitter but I don't notice much difference with it on. I once left the ION emitter on all day while I was out running around and came home and still didn't notice any difference in air quality like vs. being near the unit all day.

Happy So Far
Pros: Very Quiet, cold air, easy setup
Cons: no controls on unit
Other Thoughts: Like others here, it would have been nice had Sharp had some controls on the unit itself. However, that being said, this is a very nice unit. Very quiet, very cold air. I have it to aid with my central air in the Vegas heat that today was 114. Unlike others, the vent tube wasn't too bad to install into the window. I had it all done in 20 minutes and up and running. I've also heard about the packaging problem with Sharp. Mine arrived in pristine condition, the box was perfect and NewEgg delivered it in just two days. Just in time for another scorcher. I highly recommend this unit so far, but time will tell.

Not as Cool as a window AC
Pros: Seems like a good looking unit
Cons: Does not throw off as much cool air as my 10,000 BTU at low speed
Other Thoughts: I thought maybe to replace my window 10,000 BTU with this. Yep I know it says that its 1150 btu but having this set to high it does not cool off as my 1 year old 10,000Btu at low setting.Yep it does not sound as loud as my window unit.I think it the real world this is more like a 7000 BTU

Nice unit
Pros: QUIET and powerful for a portable.
Cons: Not many: Heavy and tricky/flimsy window venting system.
Other Thoughts: From the other reviews, the box arrived looking beat up, however, the unit inside was fine with no damage. You may not fare as well, but I was fine. I imagine this is due to the weight of the item = dragged around by the delivery service.

Quiet and powerful
Pros: Amazingly quiet. Compressor vent set-up well designed. BTU rating seems accurate (i.e. not way over-inflated like some other manufacturers do.) Support good.
Cons: Plastics/Materials are pretty cheap- questionable how long the plastic vent cover will last outside. Many corners cut to reduce cost, like the casters being so under-rated even the manual says not to roll the unit.
Other Thoughts: Agree with everyone else on the poor packaging. The boxes don't look like they were meant for UPS...more for a palette. My box looked fine, but ended up having one bottom corner that probably got hit hard- a caster was broken and the cover chipped. Sharp customer service were good though. After the rep read the standard script about returning the unit, and me asking for them to just send me a new caster, he was able to just ask a supervisor if he could, and they just sent me a new caster. (Hint: don't try to dismantle the unit to replace a broken caster. Use a hair dryer to heat the plastic and separate the wheel and the metal post.)

Quietest - can use in my work office
Pros: Extremely quiet...I took two other brands back after they were either so loud I couldn't do a conference call with it on or had a problem where I would have to drain condensation periodically. This unit has neither problem. Has worked flawlessly for 8 months. Have run it extended periods during the day or even a few times overnight while sleeping. Oh, it's one of the best looking and compact units in my opinion.
Cons: A little heavy as mentioned, but I'm not moving it. Only has a remote, no buttons on the unit itself, so make sure you don't lose. Haven't tried a universal remote yet.
Other Thoughts: I almost gave up on cooling with a portable unit. Nothing looked good - window units were way too loud and ugly, floor units were too loud or way too hard to drain water from (you shouldn't have to do this, but other units required it and you would end up spilling water as you tried, or alarms would go off at night while sleeping with them on when the water chamber filled up.)
Have been extremely happy. No draining, looks great, quiet, runs flawlessly for months...

It cools
Pros: Well, this was a semi large purchase for me so of course I did my research. And that led me to not expect very much. So I was very pleased when I received this A/C. I need it to cool my living room, and it does just that. The remote is a nice amenity, and set up was pretty simple.
Cons: What people are saying about the packaging is absolutely correct. This is by no means Newegg's fault. Luckily, my unit got to me without a scratch or dent to be seen, but the box was beat to you-know-where.
Other Thoughts: Wow, Newegg. You've done it again! I had lost confidence in Newegg's shipping precedence (super fast, IOW) after my quad core fiasco (TWO FREAKIN WEEKS? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!). But lo and behold, I got the 3 day shipping option, and the unit was at my house NEXT DAY. Awesome.

Nice AC
Pros: Nice, cool, QUIET! Doesn't throw out as much as the window units, no, but it does do the job and pretty blessed well for the style of AC unit. It is heavy for a "portable" AC, so be prepared. Shipped, was 95lbs.
Cons: The packaging that everyone has complained about is on the poor side. Mine actually looked to be in decent shape upon arrival. Excpet for the bottom of the box. Looked like they dragged it from the warehouse to the UPS truck and then from the UPS truck to the front door. But it's all in one piece. Every other part was fine.
Other Thoughts: I will be buying a second unit shortly, but would offer the advice, if the packaging is in pieces when they try to deliver it to your door, turn them around and tell them your not excepting it. Return to sender with the reason, packaging is cheap and I can't say the bad word I wanted, ha. Product might be damaged.

Poor Packaging
Pros: A nice unit, a little weaker in cooling power than I expected but sufficient for me. I added my own longer exhaust pipe to allow me to move it around in my garage.
Cons: Packaging is poor. There is no protective foam around the unit, only a thin layer of cardboard. Even a minor bump may dent the metal body, as mine was.
Other Thoughts: Newegg has always been an A1 supplier for me. The packaging is Sharps problem. They should repackage the units.

Finally Happy
Pros: VERY QUIET MACHINE louvers sweep up and down if you'd like. Nice appearance, adds class to any room. Adds cool comfort with great control compared to the ice box feeling of a window AC
Cons: Portables do not cool as well as in-window models so make sure your BTU rating is higher than normal.
Other Thoughts: This particular model is not packaged very well. The first one I ordered came destroyed so I did not accept it. Luckily this one came in one piece with only box damage and no damge to the unit. Overall I am very pleased.

Sharp 12LX
Pros: The Sharp is quiet and works as I expected it to. That doesn't mean it works as well as I was would like it to.I spent a lot of time researching portable air conditioners. So, I knew what to expect - not a great deal. As for noise, the unit is more than quiet enough, even on mega cool, for a bedroom. It is not silent, but a lot quieter than any hotel air conditioning unit that I have experienced. My dehumidifier in my basement makes more noise.
Cons: The packing is the units weak link. Newegg drop ships from the manufacturer, as best I can tell (my unit was drop shipped). My unit arrived in perfect condition. But, I can see why other people complained of damaged units. The packing is really not sufficient to protect the front of the unit from damage.
Other Thoughts: You really need to understand that portable air conditioners don't work even half as well as window units. Because I spent a lot time researching these units I am quite pleased with the Sharp. It is exactly what I expected. I wish portable units worked better than they do, but as long as you know what you are buying you won't be disappointed.

good and bad
Pros: not bad looking, very quiet, blows cold air.
Cons: Like previous reviewer, box arrived very damaged. All the protective foam was smashed, the box torn in several places, and the the air conditioner has cosmetic damage. This unit is NOT 5" deep. It is 15 inches deep. Much bigger than it looks in the photo and in the description.
Other Thoughts: Very frustrated for receiving a damaged package and unit. I'm betting it was sent out damaged because it only had to travel with in California and I've never seen UPS do this much damage to a package.

Pros: Cheap Price From Newegg!
Cons: Item arrived in a Box that Looks Like it was dragged From The Shipping Center To My Home.Unit Has Damage and Some small Cracks.Window Kit Is Horrible! After All This, It Does NOT Cool my Room.I am Very Disapponited and wish I Had'nt bought it.I've Been a Newegg Customer Forever and Will Continue to be because their Computer Prices and Service are the Best, but i won't buy any other type of Items again.

Pros: QUIET! POWERFUL COOLING COMPACT MACHINE EASY INSTALL
Cons: PRICE
