Tech Level: somewhat high
Ownership: more than 1 year

Rating + 1 You get what you pay for: Cheap

Pros: Small, inexpensive and fairly lightweight for a window-mounted air conditioner.

Cons: This unit is extremely noisy when there is water buildup internally, which is the majority of the time it's switched to cooling.

The front of the unit is separated from the rear via a wall of cheap foam insulation. Both the front and the rear section lack ANY form of drainage. Tilting the unit back doesn't help, you have make your own drainage system (I drilled holes in the bottom).

Once you switch cooling on the front becomes an ice block within a very short period of time and stops cooling. The ice quickly melts but, again, has nowhere to go - no drainage whatsoever! This causes the pan at the base to fill up fairly quickly and the front-end fan then circulates through the formed puddle of water, easy doubling the noise.

Other Thoughts: Haier have only been around for 10 years (according to their website) and their low-end manual-controlled air conditioners are so poorly engineered I have to wonder why they bothered to make them at all.

After this experience I'm steering clear of ANY product they manufacture.

Rating + 4 That's funny

Pros: Cools well for it's size. Low power consumption (500 watts)

Cons: No water drain

Other Thoughts: I thought I was nuts when I did not see a water drain on the unit when I first purchased it. I shrugged it off. Sure enough after a few days of operation I noticed a noise as if something was caught in the fan - maybe a leaf?

Upon further inspection I noticed the water was collecting in the tray outside and there was no way for it to drain. I drilled a few holes in the bottom and all is well now. What a stupid oversight.

Rating + 3 Works, but with a little work

Pros: -Cools well in my small bedroom
-Ease of use

Cons: -"Normal" water noise is outrageously loud
-freezes up easily even at lower settings.
-terrible customer service

Unit actually works well but needs a little alteration as it has a terrible design. Worked well at first, all the normal operational noises weren't exceptionally loud until it started sounding like there was a piece of plastic hitting the fan inside and a water noise. A little inspection showed that the problem was that the collection tray for condensation water had no visible drain holes on the bottom to let water out, and the ones on the side of the tray were clearly above the lowest point of the condenser fan. (this means the fan is spinning in the water)

Other Thoughts: Didn't purchase form newegg.com, but wanted to give people a heads up. Started with the water noise after about a month or so, emailed Haier for assistance and got nothing. Ended up drilling 2 1/8" holes in the back, bottom corners for drainage and that problem was solved. Secondly the unit freezes up a lot. Turning the compressor off fixes this but at that point your AC is no longer cooling. Both of these issues are addressed in the manual as "normal operating noise", but really why should you have to drill holes in a brand new AC to stop noise like that? Really it sounds like a cop out for a poor design.
