Ok for computer but not for paper 02/17/2008
This review is from: ADESSO CyberPad 8.5'' x 11'' Active Area USB Digital Notepad & Graphics Tablet
When used with digital stylus as input device, accuracy and functionality are good. Can be used as paper capture, although functional OCR software would GREATLY help this device.
The quality of the pen is miserable when writing on paper. Skips continuously, no matter how often you change the nib, especially in a dusty environment. No OCR software with it (have to buy separate, and doesn't integrate with Microsoft OCR/Office stuff well). Software is poor and badly integrated - should not have to open multiple programs to do one function.
I'm a manufacturing engineer, and bought this to use on the floor and during meetings to capture text notes, diagrams, sketches when I cannot use a computer. After filling up six or seven notebooks with chronologically organized notes, I wanted a digital solution that could be subject-referenced for easier lookups later.
The pad records notes & diagrams, but can't tell what you're writing on the paper if the pen continually skips. Ended up being useless for this purpose, but good for computer input with the stylus. Not as good as a Wacom unit, but cheaper.
Hopefully next generation of these will have a pen that actually works as a pen. Either that or tablet PCs get cheap/light enough for industry to buy...
