1 out of 5 eggs no postcode, useless tech support 05/19/2008

This review is from: ASUS Z7S WS Dual LGA 771 Intel 5400 SSI CEB Dual Intel Xeon Server Motherboard

Pros:

Dual xeon processor support, if works

Will post another review after this problem is solved.

Cons:

first board I got had missing parts - the cpu heatsink mounting plate kit (3 bags of screw, 2 metal plates, one plastic plate) was missing. I got a replacement board today after 1.5 weeks later. Then the board does not start with no postcode (no beep, and the diagnostic card shows "FF" only).

Other Thoughts:

After installing the system with 2 Intel Xeon E5420 processors, with 12 Gbyte (6 FB-DIMMS -Kingston KVR800D2D4F5K2/4G - 4GB PC2 - 6400 CL5 ECC 240-pin FB-DIMM kits). When I start the system, it did not have any postcode (no beep at all),the Diagnostic card shows "FF" start the from begining and never change.

I then tried with one CPU on CPU0, one DIMM, 2 DIMMs, 4 DIMMS, still no postcode.

I called technical support in the USA. They told me the processors (Xeon E5420) are not listed as supported processors. And did not give any furhter asistants. However, the motherboard clearly listed 5400 series processors are supported. And before I bought the board from newegg.com, two customers listed their configurations as 2 xeon 5410 CPUs, one customer listed 2 E5420, and one listed E5430 (same processor but faster).

I have tried two power supplies - Antec Power Trio 650W (24-pin power, 8-pin, and 4-pin CPU power), and Corsair CMPSU-750TW (EPS12V, has no 4-pin CPU power), no lock.
