Good and Bad 05/29/2008
This review is from: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit for System Builders
Good performance, if you have enough memory. Good security, if you can put up with it. Looks nice, if you have enough computing power.
demands a high end system. The security is more than a little annoying and prevents many programs from automatically updating themselves. It has a default power saving mode that puts the machine into standby, but isn't able to come back out of standby properly on most hardware. There are still many bugs they need to work out, but XP was the same way until SP2 came out.
I don't recommend using Vista unless you have at least 4GB of memory, so that puts 32-bit Vista out. 64-bit is the only way to go. 6GB seems comfortable. Also, make sure you get all hardware that has Vista drivers. My old bluetooth adapter doesn't, so I had to ditch it. You will also want to manually ditch the power saving features.
