Good case, complaints are easily remedied 07/30/2008
This review is from: macally PHR-250CC Aluminum 2.5" IDE USB & 1394 External Enclosure
On off switch. No more fried FW400 ports. Very solid construction. Metal case acts like a heat sink, unlike plastic cases which insulate the drive.
The light is luxeon bright. I can't imagine why they would build a flashlight into the case. The light is so bright, you don't want to point it directly at someone's eye.
The drive is not floated; the rubber washers do not provide shock absorption. However, cases that do float the drive only provide minimal shock absorption. Either way, don't drop the drive while in use.
The vents on the bottom of the case are useless for cooling down the drive. There needs to also be vents on top for air to enter and then exit the enclosure. However, real venting probably wouldn't help draw heat away from the drive anymore than the entire case-as-heatsink is already doing.
A piece of tape is not going to help with the light. I took off the end-cap and pushed the LED so is shines straight up inside the case, then put the end-cap back on.
People complaining about drives scraping inside the case are not tightening the screws enough. The rubber washers need to compress for everything to fit.
