3 out of 5 eggs Nice concept, a little flawed 09/16/2008

This review is from: Antec NSK1380 Black/ Silver Steel MicroATX Cube Computer Case 350W Power Supply

Pros:

Nice design. One takedown screw in the back removes the top panel, and the top panel holds the sides in place. Planned to replace PSU with a PicoPSU and put a single 120mm fan in its place. It would have been nice, but...

Cons:

The top cover of the case looks like cheap plastic, because it is cheap plastic. It would have looked 100% better if they covered the top with the same material as the sides. The side panels slide and lock into place with a little plastic tab that hooks over the back of the case. The hook on the left side was bent out of shape on my case (it's made of plastic) and so the left side would slide off with just the slightest handling. The clips should have been metal. The top panel is designed to keep the sides from coming off while it is attached. The left side fell out anyway.

The plastic front panel looks cheap.

Behind the front panel are vent holes in the metal frame. There are two large slots on the front of the case to pull air in. Unfortunately, they are curved to the center, giving the air to the optical drive and center 3.5" slot rather than the two hard drives on each side, which have to get their air pulled in from much smaller openings on the bottom front.

Other Thoughts:

This would have been a nice case if they had put a little more care into the design. There are nice touches here and there, but not quite as many as the P180. Antec would do well to put a little more metal into their cases. Some for looks, but especially when it comes to functional items that are prone to fail. In this case, it was a plastic tab that wouldn't engage and lock into the back of the case. Antec also uses plastic tabs to hold the sides onto this case (and my P180) and you have to take a lot of care not to break them off.
