Powerful, quiet, and not stinky 09/23/2008
This review is from: SilenX IXP-76-14 120mm Case Fan
I have four of these running in a thermaltake armor case (one on the CPU heat sink, one on the rear exhaust, one blowing over the hard drives, and one under the optical drives blowing towards the RAM). They have all been running for nearly a year with no issues. They move a lot of air and are much quieter than they really should be. I have not had any of the issues described by other people: no strange smells, no failed bearings. I'm also very glad they came with the 3pin connectors rather than the standard molex found on so many other fans. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the purchase (from the "cold" CPU store since they were considerably cheaper at the time).
For me, the only con has ben the aesthetics, or rather, the lack of. Fan color is pretty nasty and no LEDs. Other than that, nada.
Reviews from other sites have indicated that these fans tend to fail if used on a PC that is run 24/7. Mine usually runs for an average of 6-8 hours a day, so I can't really comment on the long-term viability of these fans under constant use. I can say, however, that over the last 2 weeks of 24/7 use (folding), I haven't had any issues. This, after 11 months of use already.
***to the guy blaming the failed fan for damaging his CPU, if you're using an aftermarket cooler that requires a fan of this caliber, your are likely overclocking and as a result, you really ought to keep better tabs on your CPU temp. Anyone that goes beyond "stock", knows the importance of temp monitoring and clearly, you were not.***
