Excellent Camera 01/25/2009
This review is from: Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Black 10 MP 20X Optical Zoom 28mm Wide Angle Digital Camera
Cannon has really hit one out of the park with the SX10 IS. The camera itself is well built and feels sturdy. Lots of features let you really customize the settings, and super macro is a very nice feature. White balance evaluation is also a welcome feature, as is the ability to adjust the power of flash. All of the settings work together to produce very detailed photos.
I was also impressed with the video capture mode. I didn't buy this for video (naturally) but it takes respectable video and sound recordings.
Another nice plus is that it actually lasts a while on rechargeable batteries. I can go through an entire day of shooting without them dying.
If I were to nitpick, I wish that you could set max exposure time higher than 15 seconds. I believe Panasonic offers up to a minute...that would be nice (so would infinite exposure).
Also, and this is a common complaint, the lens cap should have a tether. I've almost lost it several times. Eventually I gave up and swapped it for a tethered lens cap from my old 35mm SLR.
It would also be nice if lens filters/protectors would screw on properly to it, although despite this the one I used works fine and keeps the actual lens nice and safe.
When I got this it also came with a combo deal of an 8 gig card and a carrying case. The card is great, although for some reason my printer won't recognize it. The case is alright, however the camera is a tight fit, and one ends of the shoulder strap popped off. I'm afraid to carry t by the should strap.
Back to the camera: the SX10 is an excellent camera and worthy of the 5-egg rating it has.
