This review is from: OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2RPR10664GK
Pros:
Physical quality seems great. The HPC is really cool. Literally. The stick that works does well running @ 533 MHz. In fact, I'm using it now. Without the second stick, I can't run at DDR2 which would effectively make my speed 1066 (I believe).
Cons:
One stick was bad. Grrrr. This has caused me a HUGE amount of turmoil, filing insurance claims/RMAs for things... Just a massive headache. I submitted the rebate some time ago since I wasn't going to have the rest of the parts together to test it. I'll be really mad and banish the brand name from my system if OCZ sucks with exchanging my stick or correcting the problem. Alas, I have yet to embark on the journey of trying to get some help or resolution. This was my actual first ground up system build from scratch. I'm no stranger to hardware, but never had the nerve to build one. I'll say again that the dead stick has caused many giant problems for me. Whenever it is installed alone or as a second, my system won't even power on. Not powering on is the issue that plagued my huge plethora of components I had to keep replacing over the past few months. Gah.
Overall Review:
I haven't contacted OCZ yet. I felt the need to write this because of the bad stick. The first RAM speed my motherboard went to was 266. There's nothing at all with the RAM explaining the timing or voltage more in depth, so I put it at the 2.2v (as per the label on the face) and didn't alter the latency- it was left as "auto". I'd rather have detailed manufacturer literature than go by knowledge gained from the net. I think if I ever get the DDR2 enabled, this will be a great product. My new system consists of an Athlon 7750 X2 B.E., a BFG Tech 550w PSU I'm pleased with, and a micro ATX motherboard from ASRock that is incredible. Newegg has been great with everything. I still hate UPS. I HATE UPS. Package handling is awful and they typically chuck it at my mailbox, about 30 feet from the front door and exposed to the weather. Perhaps they could try for the giant porch... They also always manage to screw the delivery times so that when I place a mid-week order, it ends up taking a wee
