This review is from: TomTom XL 340S 4.3" gps navigation with IQ Routes Technology
Pros:
Hats off to their superb tech support. I phoned 3 times on different issues, mounting options etc., (none of these issues was related to the function of the unit itself.)
The longest I had to wait for a tech was about a minute. Each tech was friendly articulate and knowledgeable.
Now to the functioning of the unit itself. The initial linking to satellite was rather slow, but thereafter it was extremely fast. And the connection remained in spite of trees heavy clouds etc.
I live in an area where the shortest route to the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway is far from the fastest. You have to go through shopping areas and traffic lights. Us locals know the short cut. With my previous GPS I ignored its directions until I got to the Expressway using my own knowledge of the area. Once I got to the Expressway I let the unit take over. This Tomtom took me through the same route that I would have taken to the Expressway. Amazing!
Cons:
I mounted my prvious Garmin GPS using a bean bag device made by Garmin. The unit is securely locked in place to the bean bag unit without suction, and the beanbag remains securely resting on my dashboard. I never trusted suction cup units, always expecting the device to fall off and land in my lap. I bought a brackton dashboard mount for this unit, and while the unit seems to lock securely into place, it is done via a suction device, which I don't trust. My unfounded prejudice? Maybe.
Overall Review:
I bought this on sale for $179 (afeter an additional $10.00 off when I bought it with the Brackton mount).
It is an amazing unit. Very sensitive and the IQ technology really works.
