First defective waiting for second 05/12/2009
This review is from: DFI LP JR GF9400-T2RS LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9400 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros:
Side-opened SATA ports
Advertised specs
Bought it to build a balanced (cost, power, and performance) Vista Premium media center:
1- nMediaPC case 2000S
2- Silverstone PS ST60EF
3- Core 2 Duo
4- 4 GB DDR2 Kingston
5- 80 GB 2.5 Fujitsu
6- DVD Burner
7- Jaton 8400 GS card to work in boost hybrid SLI mode with onboard GE9400
Cons:
1- Defective
Spent 3 full days trying to install Vista and XP with default BIOS configuration as well as modified ones. This board caused installation to crash with BSOD repeatedly. Tried without the extra GPU. Tried with 2 GB RAM. Tried with all USB devices disconnected
When an install actually succeeded, OS crashes were frequent as well.
2- Hybrid SLI drivers
I knew I would only get boost (not power-saving) mode with Intel platform and Vista OS. Enabling it in BIOS was easy but Nvidia drivers kept crashing. Eventually hybrid SLI worked but the board kept crashing the OS.
3- Manual lacking and says very little about BIOS settings and their meaning. If you're going to charge your customers $150 for a board, create informative, not glossy, manuals.
4- Online utilities to update/flash BIOS don't work (at least the Vista method).
Overall Review:
When configurating BIOS to emulate SATA as IDE make sure to connect all drives, you want the OS to see as IDE, to SATA ports 0-3
Waiting for the replacement since newegg is not giving a refund. May update the review if the second is better.
