Good product if you know what you're doing, but still a mixed bag 08/17/2009
Price seems right for this product. The enclosure build quality is just fine. Overall not bad. The fan is replaceable. Firmware does support 2TB drives.
The fan in this enclosure is much too loud. I can hear it over all three on my PCs in my office including my server. Maybe the other reviewers don't take noise control as seriously as I do.
The model number of the included fan is DF128025SL which is rated at 29CFM and 24dBA. But in that enclosure it makes a whooshing sound.
I suggest replacing the fan with this model: ENERMAX Marathon Enlobal 80mm (24CFM, 14dBA). It’s an easy replacement to do. You will need to find a 3 pin to 2 pin converter, or just clip the leads and replace.
Also, don't even try to run this enclosure with anything but a SIL3132 chipset. It just won't work. I tried everything from AMD SATA host controllers to Intel to Highpoint. None will work. Save yourself time and effort and buy the “SYBA SD-SA2PEX-1E1I PCI Express SATA II Controller Card” here on NewEgg when you buy this enclosure.
I did check the firmware on the enclosure as described in another post below. It's newer than anything on the SiliconImage website.
