Installed 2nd Card 09/28/2009
This review is from: SAPPHIRE TOXIC Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card, 100243-1GTXSR
Pros:
Great single card. I got my 2nd and setup Crossfire. Was a tight fit between the two cards and I had only millimeters to spare between the two but they both run well. Cards topped out at 82-85 degrees Celcius when pushing them hard.
Cons:
They do run hot when they are getting worked. The case I was using had a very good single 120mm Enermax fan in the front and a single 80mm Enermax fan on the side panel but it was high up and did not put new cooler air on the cards from the side. So, I'm RMA'ing it. I can feel the heat floating up from the case.
Overall Review:
I'm RMA'ing the 2nd newer card and am instead going to replace my Thermaltake Soprano with a CM Sniper. If you do decide to run these in Crossfire make sure you get one of the more newer cases with a 200mm fan on the side blowing air right onto these puppies and a get overhead 200mm for outtake air. However, the 5870 just came out and a single one of those is almost as good as a pair of these and consumes less power in single or as a pair so, if you're thinking of pairing this card up, better holding off until the 5870 come down in price and just stick it out a while longer with a single Toxic 4870. Great card, been loving it.
