Pros:

What can I say? These drives are awesome! I picked up a pair, striped them, and installed Windows 7 64-bit without hassle. Install was ultra quick and everything is just running great on my Core 2 Quad. I picked up a 1TB Caviar Black for storage and my system is getting a 7.1 experience rating. The drives themselves scored a 7.2 and I've done very little tweaking aside from moving the recycle bin and the paging file to the Caviar drive. This turned out to be a better upgrade than I thought. I've been planning to go i7, but with this current performance increase I may hold off longer for lower prices. These Vertex drives gave my machine new life and my old Hitachi drives that I had striped weren't slouches. I may even buy a third one. These are very impressive.

Cons:

I do wish that mounting hardware was included. Having to buy a bay converter isn't the end of the world, but come on! These companies can throw in a ninety cent bracket, and some real documentation would be nice to. I didn't need it, but I'm sure there are many people out there who don't have a clue how to use these things. Consumers shouldn't have to rely on an online forum to get started. I won't take away an egg though since most other companies package them the same. It seems there are only a few who offer the extras with their drives.

Overall Review:

Well, I debated going for a CPU/motherboard/ram upgrade first, but after spending a lot of time researching I thought I'd take a shot and upgrade to these drives first. I think it was the more beneficial upgrade. The price was right(hopefully even better if I actually get the rebate...I won't hold my breath though). i7 prices are coming down, but not as fast as I'd like. The most disturbing thing seems to be the large number of unreliable motherboards. The best boards are still pretty expensive, so from an economical standpoint the SSD upgrade was the better option. I think in either case one would see a sizable increase in performance. For just over $300 for the SSD's and the Caviar Black vs. a good $600 or more for a low cost but reasonable i7 upgrade it was no contest.
