This review is from: YAMAHA 5.1-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver RX-V367
Sounds great and has really good versatility with your speakers. I love having the 4 HDMI in, saves from having to run so many cables to my TV. Lots of power behind it, I don't have satellite speakers, so this thing is powering 2 large full range floor speaker cabinets, 2 medium size bookshelf, and standard center (that you can buy off of Newegg here). Having all the HDMI go through the receiver is no just convenient, it gives better sound quality. For some reason the audio coming out of the SPDIF or optical out of TV's is still compressed audio. Even though it's digital and 5.1 it's still compressed. Going through the receiver via HDMI gives you perfect audio quality, non of this compression stuff.
The main stereo hook ups on the back through me off, can't just stick the wire in, have to get single banana plugs to hook it up, nothing bad though. While I knew it wouldn't from specs and reviews, it would be nice if it would up-convert all the inputs to go out of the HDMI out, I mean...it wouldn't be too hard to do that for at least the component, it just needs to be digitized....oh well
Yamaha is a REALLY good brand to invest in when it comes to audio. I'm an audio engineer by trade and I work with a lot of Yamaha equipment even in the pro world and they work wonderfully and are super reliable. Even though this receiver is closer to the more bottom line cheaper boxes, you definitely still get the quality and performance any Yamaha device would have.
