works well for voice
seems to provide good quality for voice
the cord is around 7 feet long
the cord is wrapped in braid, sort of a soft fabric braid such as you typically find on high-end stuff. This looks and feels better than the cheap plastic wire that is typical on far more expensive microphones and headsets. An added advantage of this cord being wrapped in braid is that it does not kink up and get tied in knots nearly as much as a regular plastic cord. This is a terrific convenience, and no doubt will allow the cord to have a longer life span as well.
works well with skype
For voice applications such as skype I think maybe you should get a microphone with a reduced frequency response. for example this one has a range of 30 Hz - 16,000 Hz. For voice, maybe you don't want a microphone that picks up every sound up to 25 or 30 kHz. Also, for voice, you maybe want a mic rated less DB, not more so that you don't pick up every sound in the room. more is not always b
I tried this on a Dell D610 latitude laptop, using windows XP, with microphone level turned all the way up and microphone boost on.
By making recording of my voice in sound recorder and playing it back, I figured out that if I hold it closer to my mouth than 3 inches, the Ss and Ps sound kind of sharp and pop, but you can still understand me and the overall quality is still good.
when I make a test call in skype where it plays back my voice to me, my voice sounds clear and loud even when I'm two feet away from this microphone, although it is best when it's 1 foot or closer.
As other people have said in these reviews the quality you get from a microphone depends on your sound card. Some sound cards might require a stronger input than this microphone provides. I'd say if this type of microphone doesn't work for you, then the problem is your sound card should be replaced with a better one.
