Super Nice Router 06/28/2010
This really is a super nice router! The lights are well-designed and understandable. Even the case is attractive.
This router delivers great speed. It is an excellent companion to DOCSIS-3 modems.
As stated in the Specifications, this router has a large emory and can run open-source firmware such as Tomato (TomatoUSB) or dd-wrt.
We're very, very happy with this router.
Reset procedure here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9665
We're now running firmware: tomato-K26USB-1.27.9047MIPSR2-beta16-Ext which seems very polished and functional. Still testing all the features. The full version of dd-wrt also worked on this unit, we just like Tomato better.
If Tomato is desired, note that non-Netgear firmware upgrade needs preliminary installation of something like dd-wrt.v24-14311_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR3500L.chk --since the router needs to find a file with .chk extension. Then the TomatoUSB firmware needs to be unpacked and the file renamed as a .bin extension. Firmware upgrade should run fairly smoothly... do remember to do a reset after each flash. Tomato default user/password will probably be admin/admin.
