5 out of 5 eggs Great Budget Board 02/11/2011

This review is from: GIGABYTE GA-G41M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G41 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros:

I used this MOBO for a low-cost build for a customer. This was nearly 11 months ago and it is still going strong. It is in a non-gaming machine, just to surf the Internet and do email. The manual is easy to read and follow, very complete. For the price, I think this is a pretty good little MATX board, though the socket 775 is becomming a little dated now.

We didn't pay big bucks for a board with more features than he needed. It was nice to find a board with both integrated graphics & sound, for his needs.

So read the details before you buy. DOH! See 'other comments'

Cons:

Not bad enough to nick it an egg. I personally didn't care for some of the software that comes with it. I lost my notes from when I did the build, but it seems that I had an issue with EasyTune or whatever. I ended up NOT using any of their applications. Actually I don't want an easy way for end users to 'muck around' with the bios, or be able to do a restore of the O/S from another disk partition by pressing a key.

Other Thoughts:

When building a PC, I go to the MFR's website and check for: memory compatibility, CPU compatibility, and download the latest bios & drivers. This can save a lot of hassle. The board I received had the lastest bios on it. I think I used the drivers from their website.

We were not sure if we would move his Windows XP (from his old PC) to this PC or if he would buy Windows 7. So I put in two 2 GB memory sticks for 4GB total RAM. I used the Intel Wolfdale E6300 2.8GHz dual core CPU. (Maybe not available now.) We did use his Windows XP, so it won't make use of all 4GB of ram. But it should run Windows 7 (64bit) if he wants to do so, later on.
All parts were from Newegg.

I had not built a new PC for a few years. I was amazed at how fast even the lower-end systems of today are compared to the ones people bring in for repair that are maybe 5 years old.
