- Motion Activated Recording with pre-installed 500GB HD
eh..they are ok 07/16/2011
Its not too expensive, 500GB hard drive may sound small but it can record quite a lot if u set all 4 cameras to motion detection. i say it may use about 1 to 2 gigs per day in motion detection mode, will last you more than a year.
The nightvison works a lot better than you'd expect, no need for an infrared floodlight. the camera infrared is enough for quite some distance outside.
Lots of motion settings for each camera to tune it just right and avoid nonsense high motion activation sections in the camera view like tree leaves.
each cord has power and camera video in/out so one wire/camera makes easier install
dvr connected to tv works the second you connect it
Playback feature is a major pain. You can not play all 4 cameras of what happened in a given day by just pressing a few buttons, you have to go into the file search feature and select each file for each camera at a given time. 4 cameras with motion sensing can make hundreds of such files in one day...go
IE browsing only good for making dvr/camera settings, i can not get a live feed or any prerecorded video feed from dvr and into my IE. However if u download the netviewer from the support page at NightOwlSP website then u can view live cameras on pc and all the recordings etc etc so that makes up for IE9 not working right.
WinMobile camera APP installs and once started it freezes. i tried everything to get it to work, i cant do anything once i run the ap it freezes as it opens i have the T-mobile Dash 3G(win mobile 6.5) coneted to wifi. So beware im 99% sure this survailance system will not work with this phone, 1% unsure only if theres something i missed in the phone setting but thats unlikely i looked everywhere to get it to work.
DVR internet test were ran thru a bridged connection between my laptop and the wifi, and it works right away thru autoamtic DHCP connection no need for static ip and such. but keep in mind does not work with IE9 however works with nightowl Netviewer
camera angles 42*degrees are very narrow i strongly recommend installing cameras somewhat far from the area being monitored and at a low height so you have a much longer area coverage since width wise is horrible about 10-15 foot width from a 20 foot distance or so. mounting cameras high up on the roof of a 2 story avg home and looking str8 down is kind of a bad idea unless there's a way to get wide fish eye lens for the cameras.
think twice about running cables thru attic, may be easier nailing some cable clips to keep the wires in place and running cables at the roof edges outside the house, just be careful not to fall..
cameras are black(dont reflect light), might not want to paint them to match ur house color because not only that may void warranty, but it will give off A TON of infrared glare at night, on that note keep camera away from nearby white surfaces b/c they give off lots of glare too so the camera goes blind at night its like having a flashlight pointed into it.
