Good quality, but bad design. 09/25/2011
It is bright for a single AA battery light, when the battery is new. It has beam control, which is almost required to be useful to me. The beam color temperature and has decent color rendering index (CRI) which means the colors are not all washed out.
The metal is really nice and the battery seems to be sealed in well enough to resist water for some time. When you unscrew the bottom, you notice the air-tight machining suctions the bottom cap, slowing it, and proving that it is water-resistant.
The beam has rings of different color thanks to the magnifying plastic lens's shape, which bends the light and causes color distortion near the edges. It may just be that my expectations are too much and that this is unavoidable.
The only true White area is the middle of the beam. The rest of it turns bluish, then changes quickly into rings of other colors near the edge.
The UI is a little odd, and it is a reverse clicky button, so it is no good for momentary-on.
The battery doesn't last long enough, even when I use it at 1/2 brightness. I read books at night with it, and changing the battery every other night is costly and annoying.
This item is not worth the 79 USD that Newegg claims. When it was introduced to Newegg it was only 50 USD, and it has depreciated to 20 USD at this time. Contrary to Newegg's opinion, this is important consumer information.
