- 5400 RPM 32MB Cache
- SATA 6.0Gb/s
- 3 years limited
Good enough 11/17/2011
-Price(I nabbed these at a GREAT price 69.99ea)
-Performance, Sata II speeds on a 5400(5000?) rpm drive
-Write speeds of 110 MB/s in a 4 disk RAID 5
-Quiet(honestly I havent run into a modern drive that isn't)
2 of 5 were DOA, one had an internal issue (wouldn't get recognized by BIOS) the second look as if it had been drop kicked by someone.
Beware if you plan on building a large RAID array with these disks and want to use a Windows OS. After plenty of research, it turns out you simply CANNOT install Windows (Even server 2008) on a RAID partition larger than 2 TB without a motherboard supporting UEFI.
I gave these a 4/5 simply because Newegg RMA'd my two DOA's without issue. Without that, I would say 3/5 is fair because I bought 5 drives, and only 3 worked. I've got 5 working drives, 4 of which are in a RAID 5 running Server 2008 on a virtualized environment. These don't seem to have any issue with access rates, I'm running 8 virtualized instances of various OS including XP, Linux (Ubuntu, SUSE) from a web server to several game servers.
