Compact, neat features for a simple printer.
Specs say it will print on cardstock. Not. We bought this unit to print flash cards on cardstock. We already have a CLX Samsung with the same print drum and print engine and it has cranked out over 1000 pages of cardstock prints with no issues. We needed a second unit and wanted the scanner-copier. This 3185 eats cardstock and smears toner everywhere. Yes, I set it up in the menu for cardstock paper. Samsung TS had me ship it (free) to them for repair. I included about 5 samples of smeared prints and a long letter saying that it prints fine on copy paper, not on CS.
Samsung sent me a vid of it printing on copy paper and said, "no problemo". I don't think they even read my letter.
Great return-to-fix process, free shipping both ways, but it was a waste of time. Either (1) I have a defective unit or (2) the CLX-3185 will NOT print on CS even though it is in the specs and on the menu.
Since our other Samsung prints CS just fine, I think this unit is defective but Samsung did not check it for CS feed problems. Look for it on Craigslist soon, make you a deal.
Thank you for purchasing the Samsung CLX-3185FW printer. I am sorry to hear that you were having difficulties printing on cardstock.
When printing on cardstock, be sure to enter Printer Properties->Paper->Type, and select “Cardstock” in the “Paper Type” pull-down menu. This will ensure that the fuser heats up enough to fuse the toner to the thicker paper, and prevent smearing issues.
I hope this will help.
