1st personal ssd, been waiting a long time to get one. saw this one from mushkin on sale and didnt think twice. Have always used only mushkin ram/flash memory never one problem. came with latest firmware. trim was automatically enabled. going from a 7200 rpm hdd getting 9-11 second boots(after post to desktop everything loaded was ) and almost instant opening programs(openoffice, adobe, cannon software, google earth, mozilla). Using the old drive as storage for games and a couple other programs and the personal users folders(except the hidden appdata folder for program speed).
CONS: size (in gb its actually ascetically pleasing super slim and sleek). the 3.5 to 2.5 addapter was a little lacking, used one that came with my nzxt case.
a guide if ur new to ssds and not sure on the real do and donts (fresh drive/win7 install). 1.on a working comp(turn off boot to ssd in bios, dont find it or activate it in windows)update firmware, 2.set ahci mode in bios 3.install windows
4.before doing any clicking around in your fresh install make sure ahci is enabled(open regedit> HKEY_LOCOL_MACHINE/system/ currentcontrolset/services/msahci>find "start" key>change value to 0) 5.make sure trim is on(run command prompt in window type "fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify" hit enter if it says diabeldeletenotify=0 trim is on if it says =1 type "fsutil behavior query diabeldeletenotify 0" hit enter, trim is on, type "exit" hit enter) 6.disable superfetch/prefetch (open regedit.exe> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/session manager/memory management/prefetchparameters> find "enablesuperfetch" key change value to 0, same for "enableprefetch" key) 7.disable indexing (start task manager> services tab>click "services" button>find "windows search" click it and stop service and disable. now in my computer>right ssd> propertys>uncheck "allow files to be indexed in addition to file propertys".)
8.disable disk defrag (open disk defrag>configure schesule>uncheck "run on a schedule" now open task manager>services tab>services button>disk defragmenter click and disable. 9.enabel write caching (device manager>ssd>polices tab> check enable write caching and check turn off write cache buffer) 10.disable system restore(use a diferent back up) ssd>propertys> advanced system settings> system protection tab> configure> chech turn off system protection) 11.disable hibernate (run command prompt in window type "powercfg -h off" hit enter type exit hit enter)thats the basics i also... shrink pagefile to 1gb just for stuff that needs it, shrink recycle bin to512 mb just for documents, redirect the personal users folders(except the hidden appdata folder) C/users/username/mywhatever to E drive via location tab in propertys(need folders with the same name already set up ie: E/users/U1/mywhatever. download folder is moveable in the same way. well long review hope it helps someone. ty newegg
