4 out of 5 eggs Cheap Wi-Fi 08/17/2012

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7811Un N150 USB 2.0 Wireless nano Adapter

Pros:

-Quick to connect
-Fast transfer speeds
-Low profile
-Inexpensive

Cons:

-Useless bloatware (I'll provide more details)
-Dumb blinking LED (why do we need to put lights on everything??)
-Shows as ejectable media -- which bugs me -- making me wish I had just gone for an internal WiFi card.

Other Thoughts:

I didn't have internet access, so I used the provided CD to install the drivers. I just wanted the drivers, but it also installed its own auto-run bloatware. This bloatware is CRUD, but if you uninstall, the drivers uninstall with it.

This second rate piece-of-crud company made this program really difficult to disable. The auto-run feature cannot be disabled via the programs options, run->msconfig, or the startup folders.

Ultimately, I did run->regedit, and used the "find" function to search for all registry entries that contained "edimax" (the name of the bloatware). I had to search through 20 or so entries before I found a key that contained a "start" registry. I changed the hex value from 2 to 0, and now I am free from the auto-run. Good luck!
