- Multi-Monitor Stand
Very Disappointing 08/21/2012
This review is from: Ergotron 33-323-200 DS100 Triple-Monitor Desk Stand
I trade securities for a living and have a number of trading workstations set up in my home. Recently I purchased my 4th Triple Monitor Ergotron stand, and it will be my last. These newly designed stands are just not the quality of the old. There are NO pros. None.
The newest designs have two major flaws from older ergotron stands I own: 1. The mounts have been redesigned. The old mounts allowed for both vertical or horizontal adjustment of individual monitors. The new mounts either allow for no vertical, and force you into a 4 degree tilt horizontal on the outer mounts. Or, you can reverse that effect if desired by electing a 4 degree tilt up or down vertically, with no tilt horizontally. But either way, these are not desirable choices. AND 2. The arms are of lower quality and can not support the weight of even the lightest monitors, causing the monitors on the end to droop. The net result of these two issues is the the center monitor looks ok, but the outer two monitors are tilting and drooping down, causing you to read text at a slant.
Another issue bugs me about all my ergotron stands. The base is massive, large footprint on the desktop. You'd think they'd design it in such a manner that it would be convenient to sit things on the base. But, no. They make it a curved shape which renders that space on your desktop near worthless. These issues are absolutely maddening. I am extremely upset with Ergotron. They have taken an unbelievably arrogant approach to product design, giving the user minimal flexibility in how they want to view their monitors. Instead, dictating to their customer how the stands are to be used. I could live with the base, although it perturbs me greatly. But the changes they have made to the arm and mounts are horrid. Save your money. Buy a different brand. I would not recommend this product to either friends, or family.
