4 out of 5 eggs Excellent Product, but Consider Your Competition! 08/27/2012

This review is from: Creative 70GH014000002 3.5mm / USB2.0 Connector Circumaural Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Sigma Headset

Pros:

- 3.5mm jacks. VERY IMPORTANT. Read "Other Thoughts."

- Steel band gives confidence in overall fitting of headset, I broke 2 Plantronics' headset bands (don't get me wrong I still love their products) because my head is kinda too big I guess.

- Pleather feels absolutely fantastic, and even better so when worn in a little.

-50mm drivers give excellent bass, but clarity gets hurt a bit especially on instrumental songs. Definitely want to use a sound card with 3.5mm's plugged if you're more music oriented.

-Overall sound quality is excellent, especially with my Xonar DGX.

Cons:

- Flimsy ribbon cable. I taped my wire halfway up under my keyboard drawer just to be safe from chair leg crushing it or pulling it out.

- Mini pop filter over mic comes off more easily... considering to glue it down, lol!

- Wouldn't have minded if cable was maybe 1ft. or 2ft. longer. Still sufficiently long though.

Overall Review:

I'm a gamer who cares about sound (I've been spoiled by an X-Fi Xtremegamer for years and immediately hear differences in Realtek), but not as much as an audiophile to get a seperate headPHONE and standalone microhpone then you're in a pretty small niche category nowaways. Getting a USB headset renders your sound card useless, yet that's where most of the mainstream headset market is nowadays, which sucks.

If Creative just addressed all this quality issues, this is a winning product. There are only a few competing headsets left in the ~$60-80 range with this sound quality, headset convenience, USING 3.5MM jacks and I'm glad Creative is a maker of one of them.

I personally haven't had any problems with the microphone, I read the issues that people had with it and swore I'd just jam the microphone in as tightly as I could and would NOT use the USB card (just to eliminate any possible backfires). So far, no issues with mic.
