It didn't fail when I had more stuff on it.


Bought this as main drive for my latest build. Right away I noticed that it was making a hell of a loud grinding sound during drive access. Since I read a post here noting that it could be loud and it did operate ok I proceeded to load my OS and configure it, most of my programs and update and configure them, and my data.
At this point I thought it might be prudent to run HD Tune, Lifeguard and Seatools as the noise was making me nervous. All checked out OK. After spending about 80 hours doing all this I thought I better do a backup. I instead (unfortunately) I decided to do a minor case mod where I had to disconnect the drive. When I reconnected and booted, It would not boot! Would not detect it in BIOS. Contacted ASRock thinking it was the board. Test with known good drive indicated not the board! Called WD Tech Support, they concluded that drive was bad. Also admitted that it was normal for drive to make so much noise.

Other Thoughts:

Since it failed after 1 week and cost me $14.15 (as well as 80 hrs of wasted time and effort) to return it I will not be purchasing Western Digital drives again. I paid the then $119.99 for it because of its perceived reliability and 5 year warranty.
