not much of an upgrade 09/18/2012
This review is from: ASUS Xonar DGX 5.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Gaming Audio Card
It's not too expensive. Install was simple. The "situational" audio (being able to know where things are coming from in a game or something) is pretty good.
Unfortunately my darn onboard audio decided to stop working. I'm still waiting on an RMA, but in the meantime I decided to purchase this. I was attracted to the "headphone amp". I must say I can hardly tell a difference between this and my onboard audio, headphone amp or not. I was willing to make the purchase because I thought it would be an upgrade but I guess this is what I should expect from a $40 sound card.
I've experienced "less than stellar" reliability and customer service from Asus in the past. For a while I avoided their products entirely because I associated them with failure. Hopefully this will be a good way to ease back into owning their products because I do fancy their ROG components and would like to give them a chance.
