Looks good.. 11/16/2012
This is a fantastic looking motherboard and it fit perfectly with my latest build. I loved the water cooling option for the VRMs and chips around the socket and the color scheme is great.
Gotta love the voltage test points and the attention to detail for overclockers.
It seemed like the perfect match for my mod..
Unfortunately I was not aware of the PCI express limitations of the Z77 chipset. So just to warn users interested in multiple graphics setups, this chipset would be fine to run 2 cards (8X/8X) but any other devices will have to share bandwidth.
The big problem however was with the waterblock. I had a leak that I couldn't pinpoint, I finally found that one of the joints on the waterpipe was not completely soldered. This leak soaked my motherboard, of course it has not been energized yet. I have cleaned all components with alcohol, but I am still nervous about firing it up.
I would RMA but I am under the gun to finish this mod quickly and don't have 6-8 weeks to wait for a replacement. This leaves me in a bad spot, so I am not happy considering this board costs as much as a month in groceries.
I am attempting to fix the faulty solder joint, although I am sure this will void the warranty.
Ya know, I think this is the last time I will pay over $200 for a motherboard. The last one was $240 (a Crosshair I) and it was defective as well.
I'm assuming that this is not a problem in general for these boards, but still if you are interested in the water cooling it provides you may wish to look elsewhere.
