Nice CPU 01/23/2013
It's AMD! Sorry, just not an intel fan.
Hot, hot, hot...
As for performance, it's a great processor. But, man, this thing gets HOT! I was amazed at how inadequate the stock cooler that came with it was. Even when using Artic Silver 5, it just couldn't do the job. I had trouble keeping this thing from locking up during linpack stress testing at stock settings.
Then, I finally got an aftermarket cooler. I didn't feel I really should've had to, but with the low-performance of the stock cooler, it was just a necessity. When running linpack at stock settings with stock cooler, I'd hit 75c within 2 minutes, well over AMD's recommended max operating temp of 62c. I installed a CoolerMaster TX3, overclocked this CPU to 3.8 while keeping stock voltage, and this thing maxes out at 59c after half an hour. That gives you an idea at how the stock cooler performs. It performs like a one-armed man juggling chainsaws...
I LOVE this CPU, but if/when you buy it, save yourself some time and get an aftermarket cooler, even if you don't intend to overclock. Even at stock clocks/volts, the cooler that comes with it is just inadequate.
