Better poached eggs 01/27/2013
This review is from: West Bend 86628 White Automatic Egg Cooker
Does 4 poached eggs at once, and cookes them perfect. It has a thin metal insert with non-stick coating for this purpose, and cooks them evenly. Also, it will steam 7 "boiled" eggs at once; you have to pierce the tops of eggs with the included water measuring cup (it has a sturdy lance on the bottom). And, the shell peeling process is quick and easy...I'll never go back to regular boiling again!
Another review mentions trouble with the non-stick coating on the poached egg insert. I haven't had any trouble with it, but I do oil the surface before i put the eggs in... not so good if you are trying for less fat.
The "Done" alert is an annoying buzzing sound, but I guess that's the point of an alert. (Another cooker I tried has a high pitched "beeping" sound, but low enough volume to not be as annoying)
I Originally purchased the other one on Newegg instead of this one, because this one had lower reviews, and has a plastic dome. Later I saw this one on sale, so I had to try it out. I'm glad I did, because the poached egg results on this one are way better than the other one. I still use both units, when I want to boil more than 7 eggs at once. If I could only choose one unit, though, I would have to pick this one.
The included measurer/piercer is skinny and takes up little room in my kitchen drawer.
I did write a review for the other unit I bought, if anyone is interested in a comparison.
