One of the best CPU's to do down in history 01/31/2013
This review is from: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.4 GHz Socket AM3 125W Processor - HDZ965FBGMBOX
Pros:
The 965 really deserves more of a shine than a little review. This CPU has been out for nearly 5 years now and in my opinion is one of the best all around CPU's to hit the market. Especially for us 'gamers on a budget'
The 965 overclocks to 4.0Ghz without much fuss at all. It generates a bit of heat but if you get the later versions it runs cool enough. It runs pretty much any game, even more recent games, at great speeds despite its age if it's paired with a good graphics card. And in the last 2-3 years since prices have come down it is, in my opinion, probably the best budget performance CPU on the market today. It's really a pretty darn epic processor - A work of art for AMD. I believe it will go down as one of the best CPU's of all time.
Cons:
The Phenom is beginning to age. It's starting to have a bit of a time keeping up with the newest games. It's well into its middle ages and can't rough it with the young bucks like it used to. I ran a 965 for a long time - about 3 years. When I upgraded to my 3570K the difference was significant. But although twice the price of the 3570K, it does not give me twice the performance. Again, this is a 'bang for your buck' CPU. Awesome for a budget gamer but by no means the best thing out there anymore.
Overall Review:
This is to you, 965. May your legacy live on forever. Zambezi, Trinity and Vishera will look back at you as an example and pioneer. May your predecessors follow your example and stalwart abilities. And may all those gamers that couldn't afford an i5 or i7 bow and acknowledge your greatness and aptitude in opening the doors of gaming to us lowly poor souls. Phenom.....we will forever be in your debt.
