Bad cable sockets ruin nice drive 02/25/2013
This review is from: LaCie Porsche Design P'9230 2TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive 302002
Nice enclosure dissipates heat well.
Drive seems responsive when running.
TERRIBLE socket for the data cable on the back of this drive. When first opened I thought it was DOA but a little wiggling and extra pressure on the data cable at the drive end soon shows that it just has a lousy connection. The drive does not spin up until the data cable is connected correctly.
Totally unacceptable as you barely have to move the drive and it loses connection. Foolishly, I waited more than a month to open it so now no RMA. It is now relegated to a backup drive on the network with the cable kept in place with duct tape.
File this one under "how to totally screw up a great product for the sake of a lousy 5c plug"
I am VERY disappointed with this item. It does not do NewEgg or Lacie any favors to sell this kind of stuff with clearly such poor quality control.
I have a 4TB 2big Thunderbolt and was expecting the same build quality I experienced with that, and while it is a nice enclosure the sloppy assembly of the small amount of electronics needed for the interface makes this a complete waste of time. I was thinking of getting two originally but now I will have to seriously rethink.
