I bought this CPU locally and installed it right when I got home. It was clocked at 4 GHz right out of the box and all of my RAM is running happily at 1600 MHz as it should be (I'm not using 1866 because I don't really need it)
I have this processor cooled by a Corsair H100 closed loop liquid cooler and within 30 minutes I had pushed this processor easily to 5 GHz. :)
CPU-Z tells me it's got 8 cores, my BIOS says 8 cores, Taskmanager says 8 threads (woo, Task manager.)
-- 8 cores
-- 4 GHz out of the box
-- 4.2 GHz highest turbo
-- Easy overclocking
-- RUNS REAL COOL [at 5 GHz this baby does not even cross 40 degrees Celsius. It idles as low as 15 degrees Celsius]
-- Ships with heatsink fan provided [I strongly recommend against using the pre-apply thermal compound due to all other reviewer experiences.]
-- Ships in a nice black tin that looks kinda stylish.
I have no cons.
Would there really be any cons?
It's not fully supported by Windows by default but whatever that's not a con on the processor's fault or AMD's fault.
For games if you're having frame issues, just set the game to run on 4 cores and it will run just fine :) IF you don't have any issues with it then have fun!
I Googled around and found that there are some compatibility patches for the AMD FX-8120/8150 and they might be able to work for the 8320 and 8350.
Just look around for it if you go and buy one if you're an avid gamer or something that uses a lot of processor power. Windows may try disabling some cores but there's a patch to fix that as well.
I'm still learning more about this processor even after installing it and I'm quite happy with my purchase thus far.
Despite Crysis 3 being optimized for these AMD 8 core processors I have a bit of lag still but to fix that I just used Task Manager to change CPU affinity to 4 cores instead of 8 and it ran really well at that point. So of course there is some sort of software missing and some compatibility issues. I'm running Windows 7 and I do understand that it may just be my operating system but I am content to continue using it.
I would recommend this processor to any friend.
I'm running the AMD FX-8350 @ 5 GHz
Crossfire Diamond Radeon HD 7970s
16 GB G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800 (1600 MHz)
and I'm really happy overall.
Yes this processor is an 8 core processor. Just because it uses four modules divided into two, does not mean it's not an 8 core. ;)
Also for the record, I don't care if an Intel i7 3770K can outperform the AMD FX-8350. I think both processors are great at what they do. If one's better than that one is better. I'm not gonna cry about it.
