Pros:
Don't know
Cons:
problem child! - Used in a new build. Drive was flat out weird. Could not get the light to come on for the DVD, tried to giggle the cables and thought that worked. Got an XP disk to boot but then BSOD. Got one of the Ubuntu disks to boot then it hung, then reboot and got partial in the install and the system locked up. Removed an old drive from an old PC and put it in. Booted right up the first try.
gotta return the ASUS DVD – I pay return freight.
Overall Review:
I think the packaging is totally to blame. I ordered all the PC components on one order so I could pass a single invoice to the customer. Drive arrived in a box that was about 50% larger than the drive with no protection except a thin plastic bag. Although the drive was free to bounce around in shipment inside its box the box it bounced in was secure with the rest of the PC components. Next order I'll wait two days to order the optical drive and hope for better packaging.
Manufacturer Response:
Dear Ridgeland,
I’m sorry to hear that you received a defective drive. If your optical drive is DOA to begin with, then you shouldn’t have to pay for any fees. Newegg offers a “money-back guarantee” to their customers if the item is considered defective: http://help.newegg.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/185/~/does-newegg.com-offer-a-money-back-guarantee%3F
