Good performance bad design 06/13/2013
Clear image with good magnification.
Focus ring turns smoothly.
Connects flawlessly with USB on Win XP.
Has a lens cover to keep the lens clean when not in use.
The stand really limits the capability of this device. It is way too short to use the full field of view possible.
When the focus ring is backed off for minimum magnification and largest field of view, the LED's are visible and limit the size of the specimen.
I bought this microscope because I have some coins that I want to sell online and need clear images. With the LED's turned on the field of view is about the size of a nickel. With the LED's turned off, I can capture the image of a silver dollar with just the slightest bit of one edge out of the picture.
To get the largest field of view the scope has to be raised about eight inches, making the microscope stand useless unless you set the stand on a box or something to raise it up. Also, the LED's have to be turned off so they won't block the edges of the image which requires providing another source of light.
With the microscope as close as I can get it to the object, the magnification is greatest and I can really see clear details. Make sure you remove the lens cover which is clear but the image quality is much better with it removed.
This microscope does what it is designed to do and will clearly show every detail and imperfection in my coins.
Video can be captured with the scope too but I haven't tried video yet.
