- 3 Connector Number
worthy add-on 06/20/2013
Plug and bracket fit as they should. Device works as intended. Arrived in 3 days. I will probably buy more of these.
This device connects to standard motherboard internal USB 3.0 connector (19-pin, sometimes called 20-pin, but one in the middle is missing) and provides 2 USB 3.0 ports in an expansion slot, typically in the rear of the PC. It is an easy way to add 2 USB 3.0 ports on cheap or old computer cases lacking front USB 3.0, where the motherboard connector is not being used.
This is worthwhile even when only USB 2.0 devices are in use. First, USB 2.0 devices achieve better throughput when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Second, most motherboards have only 2 independent USB 2.0 controllers, and bandwidth is shared among devices on the same controller. A single USB 3.0 controller adds 5 times the combined bandwidth of the 2 USB 2.0 controllers. This can make a huge difference when multiple devices are connected and used simultaneously.
