The piledriver chips are a huge performance increase over the Thuban cores. The new architecture is complicated to understand and DOES take a lil' bit of tweeking in windows to notice the improvement. But once that's complete.....WOW.
Going from a1090T to an 8120 to an 8320 gave me a very noticeable improvement. In 3dMArk11 it gave me an additional 1800 point physics score (2355 combined) and knocked off 2.17 secs off wPrime at identical clock speeds (from 8120->8320).(1.1secs faster than my 1090T @ 4.2Ghz)
The Piledrivers are also more overclockable with less voltage. Most 8320's sit at 4.6Ghz with all 8 cores active at stock 1.36-1.37 vcore. My 8320 is sitting happily at 4.75Ghz at 1.4v (all 8 cores active) with a max load temp (core) of 34*C (18-19*C idle) using a single loop with a 240 rad. (equal to the H100i) Bulldozer and Piledriver also have a better built IMC which will increase stability when using more than 2 sticks of ram at higher clock speeds. Also have to remember that when adding an AM3+ (BD/PD) chip to a 900 series chipset you gain an additional 1.2GT/S in overall bandwidth thanks to Hypertransport 3.1
