After 3 months, no problems 07/16/2013
This review is from: Seagate Backup Plus 1TB 2.5" USB 3.0 Black Portable Hard Drive
Fast, quiet, small, easy setup
After doing extensive research, I settled on this HD with considerable wariness after reading all the reviews of problems people have had. After 3 months, it is functioning normally. I use it to back up my data and to create a disk image of my desktop PC.
On one occasion, following bootup the drive was not "seen" by the PC although the drive, which rests on my desk, was powered up. That problem was solved by merely unplugging the USB cable and plugging it back in to the 3.0 port.
Since the stock cable is very short, as repeatedly mentioned in other reviews, I bought this USB 3.0 cable at the same time as the HD:
My review of this cable is the most recent, and it was an EGGcellent choice. A 4 GB file transfers in 44 seconds. I see that this cable is now out of stock, but there are other choices similar to it.
The only downside would be the software that comes with the HD. It's not sleek at all, rather rudimentary, but I do use it because it does the job of backing my data. Not that tough to figure out. For creating disk images though, I use Win 7's backup program, which I've found is useless for doing data backups.
