5 out of 5 eggs Really decent for the price 07/25/2013

This review is from: ZyXEL NSA320 Diskless System 2-Bay Power Media Server

Pros:

Low power consumption
Hackable to a point, you can gain root access to SSH and Telnet and really own the box like you should be able to.
Able to install other OS to replace the stock setup (requires some extra knowledge)
Decent performance from NFS addon module.

For NFS from Mac Pro Early 2008 model to NAS I see speeds of:

About 35-45MB/s Write RAID0 (striped) - during write I did notice that the CPU was pegged out at 100% so this is the slowdown during write.
About 90-95MB/s Read RAID0 (striped)

Using the iperf utility to test my network speeds (installed 3rd party addon via ssh with slacker utility) reveal I have a good network in place:
Both directions testing show 112MB/s which would match the 1Gb network wire speed (this just shows what your max network speed could ever be, not what you will actually get.)

Cons:

Could have a faster processor as this seems to be the bottleneck for faster write speeds when using RAID setup.
Could have more RAM too not sure if it really needs it though.

Other Thoughts:

To those that are "Getting about 10-12MB/sec transferring data":
This is a limit of your network, you are likely connected using a 100Mb network (still very common in home office networks even most N speed WiFi routers have 100Mb wired LAN)
To "fix" this you will need to upgrade your network to include 1Gb routers / switches / hubs.

Running 2x 2TB drives (one seagate and one western digital)
