Without Touchscreen - No 08/10/2013
This review is from: Microsoft Windows 8 Upgrade
In some cases it's *slightly* faster than Windows 7.
If you have a touchscreen the new Modern UI (AKA Metro) is decent. But without a touchscreen it can be very frustrating. the jarring switch between the traditional desktop and the Modern UI can be really annoying. The should have called it "Window 8" because it wants to run all your apps fullscreen, one window at a time. You lose all the advantages that Windows, Mac, and Linux desktops have for running multiple applications visibly on your desktop at the same time.
There are also still issues with drivers for some printers and older hardware.
Pretty much everyone adds one of the programs that restores the functionality of the old Start menu as the first they do after installing Win 8. Don't be fooled by the new Windows 8.1 release Microsoft is coming out with. At this point they are going to put the Start button back on the classic desktop, but it won't have any of the functionality you expect. It will just take you back to the Modern UI start screen.
There is really no reason to switch to Windows 8 for anyone with a computer running Windows 7. This is only a cyclic product refresh from Microsoft to keep their revenue stream going. They should have released this product with the full classic desktop as an option for users without touchscreens, but they didn't.
If it ain't broke - don't fix it!
