Good fan, when it works! 08/22/2013
Metal threaded screw holes
Rubber dampeners to reduce noise
Silent and the most important factor, there is not PWM whine, hum, tick, or clicking noise when running at low speeds.
Rotation and air flow direction arrows for the n00bs who still cannot figure out that computer fan blades scoop air and will always blow towards the fan motor mounting frame.
Fan speed reducers for those who care, although you will loose your PWM function as it changes the 4 pin PWM fan into a 3 pin fan.
Braded cable and all black which is a plus.
Oh, the box is fancy.
Frame is not 100% sealed when placed against a flat surface which causes air to escape on all 4 sides. The rubber dampening should have been extended beyond the mounting points and along the sides of the fan which would have sealed it completely leaving no air to escape.
The cord is short, it is exactly 12 inches, this is a shock as the could not reach my motherboard when I mounted them in front of my Scout 2. My Cougars had 18 inches, that extra 6 inches did wonders for cable routing.
One of my fans came defective, it will not spin faster than 1400RPM and when I try to make it spin faster than 1400RPM it stop spinning then starts again, rinse and repeat!
On the same defective fan, on of the screws was unfinished so a screwdriver could not fit.
I ordered non LED versions. I wish that they have implemented a system to turn off and on the LEDs similar to the fans that are included with the Cosmos or Storm Scout 2.
I installed this in a storm scout 2, needless to say it cannot be used as an intake fan on top of the case due to if anything is infront of the fan in close proximity it will cause a ton of noise!!!
These fans are designed to be placed infront of radiators. I ended up mounting it as a push fan on my H80i and it works better than the Cougar fan it replaced.
I am highly upset that I paid $17 for a defective fan and will have to eat the $10 shipping cost to RMA this back to Newegg in CA from NYC, the manufacturer should eat the cost on this one.
I will be posting about this on their forum with pictures of the issues. I plan to buy 2 more non LED models when the prices become reasonable to mound in front of my scout 2
