Great Wireless Range and Speed 08/31/2013
This review is from: D-Link DIR-855L Wireless N900 Simultaneous Dual-Band Gigabit Router w/ SmartBeam Technology IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab
Pros:
I have disabled DHCP and I’m ignoring most of the routing capabilities and I’m using this router as a WiFi access point. The wireless connectivity and range is better than the Apple Airport Extreme that it is replacing.
Devices connected to this router:
• iPhone 5
• Nexus 4
• MacBook Air 2011
• MacBook Air 2012
• HP ProBook
• iPad 4
• Nexus 7
• 2 Xbox 360s
• 3 PS3s
• Dell Desktop
• Custom Desktop
• iPhone 4S
• Dell Inspiron Laptop
They all connect without any problem and do not disconnect until they go beyond this router's great range.
Cons:
Even the smallest configuration change requires a minute long reboot. This is kind of annoying, although not a dealbreaker.
There are no LEDs for the ethernet ports to either indicate connectivity or speed.
Overall Review:
Let me start out by saying that I have Verizon FiOS. The FiOS modem has a built in router. I attempted to turn off all of its routing functionality and pass all traffic through to this D-Link router with little success. The D-Link is not to blame, it is a limitation of the FiOS modem/router. The FiOS router has terribly slow WiFi, so I am using this D-Link router as a WiFi access point.
