reasons for concern / incorrect clamping voltage 10/21/2013
i bought 4 these on special for $12.99 each. i like the right angle plug and form of the unit with 4 plugs spaced apart.
there are some reasons for concern. first, newegg and belkin state: 15A/125V/1875W but the product has 15A/120V/1800W stamped on the bottom of the unit and on the box. second, the joule suppression rating listed on newegg and belkin is 3390J but the box says 3550J. there is no joule suppression value listed on the actual product. third, and most important, newegg and belkin state that the clamping voltage is 330V but the box states 500V and the product states L-N 400V, L-G 500V, N-G 500V.
here's a really strange requirement printed on the bottom of the unit:
"DO NOT INSTALL THIS DEVICE IF THERE IS NOT AT LEAST 10 METERS (30 FEET) OR MORE OF WIRE BETWEEN THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET AND THE ELECTRICAL SERVICE PANEL"
i'm not too pleased that the specs are inconstant and that a joule rating isn't stamped on the unit. it makes me worry. also i purchased the unit because newegg and belkin made me believe that the clamping voltage was 330V. had i known the product states 500V clamping voltage, i would have never bought these. i have no idea what that 30ft requirement of wire is for. how are most buyers supposed to know how many feet of wire they have from the panel to the outlet? how many people have most of their outlets in their home less that 30 feet of wire from the panel? does it void the warranty if you use the product on less that 30 feet of wire from the panel? why wasn't this stated on newegg or belkin's product page? after this experience, i won't be buying belkin anymore for surge suppressors.
