A good, cheap laptop. 10/29/2013
The price and the performance you get with it is the biggest pro here; With a quite roomy hard drive, full sized keyboard, good battery (~4hrs) and a AMD APU, this can even do basic gaming without much difficulty. The laptop is barebones but for the price it's not a bad deal at all; a excellent student laptop.
However, there are some minor issues here. For one thing, by default, the Fn keys run in what they call "Toggle" mode where you have to press and release Fn, then press the key you want. You can change this in the BIOS, thankfully.
There's a dedicated key on the keyboard that they call the "social" key, which is a proprietary application from Gateway (which is really Acer), that opens up a Windows 8 app that allows you to post to Facebook, Twitter, and some other social networks. However once you uninstall the program, the key is completely useless!
Also there's a wasted opportunity for the Optical drive bay; they could have something similar to what Lenovo/IBM does with their older Thinkpads, with the drive bay that lets you add a DVD drive or a second hard drive.
-1 egg for the minor flaws that really show on the laptop. However if you look past all of them you have a bargain laptop that really shines because of the price.
