About a month and very impressed. 12/06/2013
I decided to hold off on my review for a few weeks to a month before giving my input. As of today I can say I am quite happy with the drive in terms of quietness and performance it's been showing. I've had the drive in both enclosed and in my rig. Regardless of where you put the drive, performance levels are similar, just be sure the external enclosure is USB 3.0.
I've compared this to my WD Green drives and the sound level's both drives put out are the same, audible to none depending on what you are doing. Any music or gaming will cancel it out. The added security feature may be useful to some, but many will never know it has it. The drive is rated to run at under 8 watts power, which is quite amazing if you are really looking to run these together and want to cut down on electricity bill.
All in all I would recommend the drive to those who want a quite, efficient (this being the bigger pro), and semi high performing drive for back up, though however there are a few things I would have to address as to why it may not be a good buy for some...
The last pro is the 64MB cache and 5900RPM. Very very decent specs for a 4TB drive..
Size : 4TB can be good, and bad. I read earlier and a reviewer stated that if you do decide to put near 4TB (3.6TB) please consider running another in image (raid) array with this one. I would not know how to re-act if this drive were to fail with 3.6TB of valuable data. Remember that your primary drive is only as reliable as your back up, so think twice before you start to dump everything onto a "bigger" drive. Data recovery is not cheap either and I myself had to walk down this road once.
Price : The price is a tad high, I understand the lower wattage use and the security feature that is added onto the drive. Storage has always been the area on the market where consumers try to get the best bargain. There are other drives with similar specs/size at a more affordable cost. To each there own, some may find this to be a better drive for certain reasons such as the pros talked about earlier.
Regardless of the pricing on the drive, I don't think anyone would be dis-appointed with it. For the month that I have had it I have to admit I do enjoy having more space and file transfers are a bit faster than my old 5400RPM 2TB.
Warranty : Only 1 year warranty on this guy. I wish the warranty would be a bit longer since it is a bigger capacity drive. 2-3 years would have been a plus in my book, though this wasn't enough to deduct an egg.
Everything needed to be said are within the pro/con section.
The drive will stick out to some, but most will simply hit the back button. To buy or not to buy is really up to what you plan on doing with the drive.
