Great Choice for HTPC 12/14/2013
1) Smooth video playback (720p)
2) Low power consumption
3) Low temps
4) Silent fan
Should have waited another 2 weeks and got the newer Gigabyte MB with a 1.8Ghz processor and PC1600 RAM. Oh well.
Does what it needs to do in an HTPC (see pros above). Since I keep my resolution set to 1366x768 (so I can read this while I'm typing it, lol) I can only report on online video playback in 720p - which this ULV Ivy Bridge-based processor does flawlessly. Processor temps never reach above 130F, even after hours of Hulu or Netflix viewing (and the max temp is 221F(!)). Stock fan is absolutely silent from 10ft away, which I attribute to the larger 60mm size (I avoided the MBs using 40mm fans as they are just inherently noisier at the same performance level - good move Gigabyte). Paired this with 4GB of low-latency (CAS7) G.Skill PC1333 RAM, Win7 x86 and stuffed it all into an Apex mini-ITX case where it runs cool and quiet in my entertainment center. Highly recommended.
